Three peaks yacht race

Sailing and sports clubs, military and company teams all enter and compete on equal terms in this amazing and spectacular race. Five team members are allowe comprising a combination of sailors and runners, their aim is to sail from Barmouth, on the Welsh coast, to Fort William in Scotlan via Caernarfon and Whitehaven, climbing Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis on the way.


The Peaks Yacht Race is one of the oldest and most remarkable multi-sport endurance races in the world and pre-dates all modern adventure racing by more than a decade. Teams of (sailors and runners) set off from Barmouth in mid-Wales to sail up the West Coast of Britain, stopping at Caernarfon, Whitehaven and Fort William to let the runners ashore. The common factor driving the entrants over the years of the race is the spirit of adventure, engendered by the sheer difficulty of the problems that the teams encounter. Sailing through some of the most difficult waters in the UK and conquering the three highest mountains using only their own foot and wind power. The person has to have an experienced background in offshore racing and short handed racing would be preferable.


The team were 3rd last year and the second boat into Fort William. There would be at least training weekend required prior to the race.

It is a unique event combining sailing, running and cycling and takes competitors through some of the most spectacular scenery in the United Kingdom as they sail around the coast of Britain. The TPYR is a sailing, cycling and running event that includes nearly 4miles of challenging sailing, miles of cycling and roughly three marathons up Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis.


However, when I watched it,! I knew deep down that I would love to take part in this fantastic adventure race and it was race I could only dream of.


That’s the nature of this iconic race which was described by the competitors on the finish line as, “the essence of adventure racing”, “an amazing race which is quite unique” and “immeasurably interesting! The race starts from Barmouth at 19.

Saturday June th and teams will race up the west coast, stopping at Caernarfon, Whitehaven in Cumbria and at Corpach on the outskirts of Fort William. Charles had wanted to take part in this race for years and finally entered for the first time the day after he bought Driac.


With it has evolved the trappings of the offshore race circuit, sponsorship, publicity and technology. In between were a very mixed bag of monohulls and multihulls. Teams of five then sail around the LlÅ·nn Penninsula to Caenarfon for the run up Snowdon.
