Listed below are some basic 12N and 12S type wiring diagrams that will help in vehicle wiring for both road lights and caravan internal electrics. Alternatively, we are willing and able to look at any wiring problem here at our workshops.

Some vehicles could be seriously damaged by the use of an inappropriate universal towbar wiring kit – with some others, the additional wiring would simply not work properly without extra components. Keeping up with this topic as new and revised models of vehicle are launched is a demanding task, and is certainly one which we do not have the resources to do.

The twin electrics will power everything that a single electrics system powers plus reversing lamp, battery, power supply and fridge. The brown pin in most cases is not used when wiring tow bar electrics and it is important to ensure that the white pin cable is earthed.

Hi all, I’ve gone to use my trailer and noticed that the electrics ain’t working, I’ve tried a new light board and still not working, anyone know what fuse number I should be checking or any other possible reason, the only thing that has happened or I’ve done is removed. I always have trouble with the indicators and it is mostly down to the plug and socket not liking each other no matter how much fiddling with the pins and use of contact cleaner. I find that the most important thing is to not force the plug in too hard. A towbar wiring bypass relay can be fitted between the towbar wiring and vehicle wiring to prevent too much power from being taken directly from the vehicle battery.

In most modern vehicles, one connection point could operate various systems and a universal wiring kit is not sophisticated enough to accommodate complex electrical systems. A universal wiring kit could make the lights too dim.

Right Connections specialise in the supply of these solutions and we strongly advise that these be fitted by a recommended towbar ‘specialist’ who is prepared to offer a vehicle specific towbar wiring solution for your vehicle. Note Of Caution: There are still a number of towbar installers who will not or do not offer any other solution than a ‘By-Pass’.
