Exeter great west run

Exeter’s Great West Run will be taking place on Sunday 13th. We are always delighted to hear from you with any questions. The Great West Run truly is one of The Greats.


Great for beginners and experts alike, this event should be on all your running calendars. Come for the finisher’s medal or a dramatic stadium finish.


With more than years of history, the half marathon has grown into one of the region’s.

EXETER health and wellbeing charity the CITY Community Trust is standing by its values and has runners training for the Great West Run – the largest team from one single organisation to take part in this year’s race. Tickets: Own places available. Sponsorship Target: £50.


With the miles racking up week by week, the runners are reaching their peak mileage, before tapering begins at the two week stage. Most of the runners have exceeded miles and are regularly incorporating hill and sprint intervals into their training plan.

This established half marathon is an annual fixture in the city’s calendar, and expects to attract around 0runners, many of whom are fundraising for local and national charities.

Using the city’s streets for the race will cause changes to usual traffic routes for a limited period on Sunday 18th October. The young people we support have often experienced homelessness and this effects their ability to cope with everything from mental health to getting employment.

This year our goal is to raise £5through sponsorship, as intrepid runners raise £2each. Robin Burne our Budleigh Salterton Branch Manager ran with ‘Team FORCE’ who raised £20for FORCE Cancer Charity. Phil Wylie took top honors by finishing the race in 01:10:10. He bested Michael Crawley who crossed the finish line une minute secondes behind him.

We captured the best bits of this exciting event for a same day Great West Run video. After a further mile of undulating hills the run turned left onto the Pinhoe road where the hills continued to undulate but the crowd support truly helped keep the pace.

Please fill in the details below. A sports-specific energy drink (uncarbonated) and plenty of water in the approach to the run will make sure you’re hydrated with a boost of energy ready for a speedy start. Isotonic gels…always have a practice run (or two) beforehand to avoid triggering the dreaded runner’s stomach (read the Runner’s Need article with top tips).

Many of whom are taking part for the very first time. Realistically, I had three choices: Cardiff, Bristol or the Great West Run. I chatted to a few people, and after enjoying a few undulating 10k courses, decided to go for the Great West Run. The training we’ve been receiving has been really great, it’s lovely to run with others and see more of the campus and the city.


The hot August weather makes some days more difficult than others, but at least my tan is coming along nicely.
